New Art - "Fire Element"

It's been quite a long time since I posted new art mostly because my life has been busy with so many different projects that making art has taken a bit of a back seat, which I have had to accept. Most of my work is acrylic paint on canvas which takes hours and hours of layering paint. Working on this one was refreshing for me as I used pencil and some acrylic paint on paper which mean't much less layering, less time spent on it, still it took at least 4 hours to complete.

2013 Art Calendar

My new website is LIVE!

After much 'a do'  - ugh, I am sure my fellow artists know how it can be with websites, but after a few false "new website" starts I finally signed up with a new hosting company and have a new website here www.susanrodioart.com
I have been busy with loads of different things but I am just glad I have this crossed off my to do list. I have to add a couple of things to it and more art images to the galleries page, which I will do soon!

New Painting "The Fairy Door Messenger"

A bit about the painting:

I have always had a fascination with the idea of doorways in trees. I recall as a child exploring different places in nature and if a tree looked as though it had a doorway I was instantly intrigued by it.
This was before the concept of a "fairy door" was even known to me.

I have called it The Fairy Door Messenger, because the owl is a symbol of receiving messages from the unconscious mind, also if you are lucky enough to see such a beautiful creature in nature, I believe they are messengers for us. I know for myself when ever I have seen an owl which has been on the very rare occasion, it has always been a harbinger of change and wisdom in my life.

So that is the symbolic meaning of this painting.

I have some goodies available featuring this work over at my Zazzle store. At the moment I have some Greeting Cards, postcards, stickers, notebooks and magnets. I will soon be also adding a couple of small prints to my ETSY shop.
